Thesis title: "Hungering for Independence: The Relationship Between Food and Morale in the Continental Army, 1775-1783," May 2016

Major Professor: Dr. Guy Chet

Specialty Areas: 18th Century US History, Social History, Food History

I am a PhD student in US History with a focus on the colonial and Revolutionary eras. Upon encountering the newer field of food studies while in the Master's program, I chose to incorporate food history into my original plan to study early American military history, and the result was my thesis title as shown above. As a PhD candidate, I am continuing with my interest in these areas in my dissertation, which deals with Continental soldiers' encounters with new foods during the American Revolution in regions outside of their home communities, and whether these foods affected their sense of nationalism or provincialism.

I also hold a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Southern California and work full-time as a Genealogy and Local History Librarian in a medium-size public library.
