Raised in central Texas, Cameron received his bachelor's degree in theater from New York University before earning a commission as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marines. An eleven-year career that included multiple overseas deployments ended when Cameron was medically retired at the rank of major. After spending several years sailing, Cameron returned to academia, earning a master's degree in military history from Norwich University, after which he was accepted to the PhD program at the University of North Texas. Cameron and his family live near Fort Worth, and he is teaching history at Tarrant County College while completing his dissertation. An avid sailor and a licensed captain, in 2019 Cameron launched a nonprofit with the mission of helping veterans through sailing, and he intends to combine his passion for history and teaching with his love of sailing and the sea.
