I am a Master's student specializing in the cultural history of religion and magic practiced throughout antiquity and the Middle Ages, particularly in Europe and around the Mediterranean. Much of my research will likely concern Latin, Old Norse, and potentially Greek and Old English primary texts. My research will aim to draw from the stories people told about themselves--myths, legends, folklore, fairy tales, and epics--to analyze how magic is presented and performed in them. From there, I intend to cross-examine actual religious and magical practices from history with those from cultural stories to determine if there is a correlation between the two. I hope to discover that storytellers somewhat delineated religion and magic and/or vice versa.
